Babytime!

So today I took Bo to "Babytime" at the local library. I've never been a library kind of gal...hated reading growing up. I was the one who waited to do her summer reading for school the week before school started! And in college the library was more for social reasons. (I know Jarrod is shaking his head if he's reading this) at least I'm honest! So the one thing I want to expose Bo to is reading. He loves books so we seem to be on the right track, at least for a 6 month old.

Today was our first time to attend and he had a blast. The class is just for babies ages 0-12 months. There were a lot of 6-10 month babies, a few 12 month olds, and even two 3 month olds. Some were crawling, some were sitting on their own, some sat supported by mom (that would be Bo). There were about 20 moms and babies there. They put out one of those big, colorful parachutes for everyone to sit on. There is always a theme and today's was Animals! She had puppets of all different animals, then she read 3-4 books and in between stories we sang songs. At the end they throw out a bunch of toys and the kids can play while moms get to know each other. It was great for both of us! Bo made two friends in particular RJ (6 months) and Mack (12 mo). It was so much fun to see him interact with other babies. We will definitely be going back!!

6 Months of Bo

And Mom turns...30

Yep, I am officially in my 30's! All I could think about is how I remember my parents being in their 30's! Really...am I really there? Guess so! Thank you to my husband for a wonderful weekend. We had an early b-day celebration Friday night by going to dinner just the two of us (haven't done that in 6 months), then it was off with our good friends John and Cheryl for some adult time! It was great, but it also reminded me of the fact I'm getting older.

Here were the indicators...
1. The first bar we went to after being there 20 minutes we all looked at each other and said let's go because we couldn't handle the loud music or even hear ourselves in a conversation.
2. By 12:30am I was tired and ready for my pj's.
3. And the most obvious...on the way home Jarrod pointed out how all that Cheryl and I talked about were wagon wheels (baby finger foods), Barney/Sesame Street, sitting up...how Bo is so close, and how her little girl is crawling backwards.

So...yes it was great to get out, but I can only imagine what the people sitting next to us thought (if they could even hear us).

On our way out for a night with adults!

Cheryl and I

John & Jarrod waiting for a conversation other than kid stuff.

Adults only...it was great!

On Monday (my actual birthday) Jarrod was so sweet and picked up dinner and a birthday cake (I just got one out of my house from Bo's "half b-day" the last thing we needed was another cake). We played with Bo and I opened cards and gifts. Thank you to everyone for the sweet cards, gifts, emails, phone calls, etc... It all meant so much!!

He LOVES being lifted into the air!

Video

So I think we may have video!!!! We have spent all weekend trying to figure out what cables we needed, Jarrod had to install a new drive into our computer, so on and so on... Here is a little clip from a few weeks back, but it's just too cute! I just HAD to try it out tonight. Please be patient with me as I try to figure this whole thing out!

Mommy Phase

So if any of you out there have any suggestions on how to get through the "mommy phase" I'd greatly appreciate it! While I know Bo loves his daddy very much, there are certain things he wants mommy for...going to bed is probably #1 on the list. I had told Jarrod earlier yesterday that when he got home I was going to run a few errands...it's just MUCH easier without Bo sometimes. Well when Jarrod got home I had just finished feeding Bo and I asked him to give Bo a bath...then I went on to explain how I had his bottle ready in the fridge, I had pulled out his pj's, etc... I swear to you with the look of sheer panic all over his face he looked at me and said..."I'm not putting him to bed am I?" You would have thought I had just asked him to commit an illegal activity! He did everything but beg on his hands and knees for me not to leave. He kept saying it would be a disaster, that Bo would be screaming his head off (which he does do with Jarrod), but I really did think that everything would be okay.

Well apparently Jarrod was right and it was a bit "challenging". However when I walked in everything was quiet and Bo was asleep. Jarrod swears it was after an hour of him screaming. So...if anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it! Mommy needs a break too sometimes!!!!

Happy 1/2 Birthday!

Bo turned 6 months old yesterday! I can't believe it! So I just had to pick up a birthday cake for him! I saw this small cake, 1/8 of a sheet cake at the grocery and had them put "Happy 1/2 Birthday", I couldn't resist! So last night when Jarrod got home from work we had a little celebration. He had no idea what to think of the cake other than he loved putting his hands in it. I let him have a very small lick of icing, but he was more interested in playing with it. After his cake, daddy gave him a bath while I cleaned up. My parents had actually sent Bo a little care package of goodies. It wasn't meant to be a "6 month" gift, but it just happened to arrive yesterday so Bo got to open his present from Pop and BeBe!
We had his checkup this morning with Dr. Ellis. She said he looked great. He did great with his shots...I think it was harder on daddy than it was Bo.

Weight: 18.4 lbs (75%)
Height: 27in (70%)
Head Circumference: 43 cm (25%-he's got a little noggin)

His hands were headed straight for the candle!

This feels a little weird...

But OH SO FUN!!

"Is there a problem?"

Time for a bath!

Thank you Pop & Bebe for the goodies!

I love my new book...it makes LOUD noises!!! (just what we need more things that make noise)

Off to bed it's been a long day!

Night Night

Every night before Jarrod and I go to bed, we go in and kiss Bo goodnight. Last night I couldn't resist grabbing the camera. Bo always sleeps the same way...arms underneath him and booty in the air! It's too cute not to have a picture so I risked waking a sleepy baby to grab this!!!!

In person it looks much higher in the air! We've taken his bumpers off since he rolls around like crazy!

Daddy and Baseball

Yesterday while I was out running errands I decided to pick up a new toy for Bo. Since Jarrod loves baseball I decided to get something baseball related for the two of them to play with. Sure enough I get home and they are both on the floor watching the Cubs game (Jarrod is a HUGE Cubs fan)! Bo seemed to like it, but he was more interested in trying to figure out how to get it in his mouth, like everything else!

I love my new toy!

"Yummy"

"Mmmm, so this is what daddy wants me to learn how to throw?"

This is my favorite...my two boys watching the Cubs together!

My Great Hubby

So I've gone to the doctor a few times this week because of a pain I've been having in my side. They think it could possibly be a kidney stone. I had to go in today for an IVP, a test to determine if there are actual stones. The doctor was trying to get me in today because the pain had gotten worse and otherwise I'd have to wait until Tuesday. The nurse called at 1:40pm and said I needed to be there at 2:00pm and that the test would take an hour! Sure no problem I just needed to get dressed, wake up my child who I had just put down for a nap, and oh yeah...find someone to keep him, all in 20 minutes!!! So I called Jarrod and asked if he could come home immediately, but we realized that it would take him 20 mintues just to get home, much less me make it to the doctor. So...I packed up Bo, made a bottle, threw a bunch of toys in the diaper bag, and headed off to the radiology office. Jarrod met me there and took care of him in the waiting room for an hour!!

Remember...Bo did not get his afternoon nap so you can imagine how happy he was. All the ladies in the office fell in love with Bo, they were so sweet. We completely took over their children's waiting area...put on Jungle Book and turned out the lights hoping that would send him off to dreamland. Apparently it didn't work that well and Jarrod had to pull out all the stops. When I was done (an hour later) I walked out and handed in my paper work. The girl could tell I was looking for Jarrod and Bo and she said..."they are in there, I think he finally fell asleep." Uh oh I thought...that means there was a breakdown!!! Jarrod said he was fussy, but did okay up until the last 15 minutes or so and then it was total chaos and he was out.

Tonight I thanked Jarrod for coming to help today so I could go to the doctor. His response was..."It's okay, it's part of it". The fact that he said that means the world to me. There are many husbands/dads out there who think it's the mom's responsibility to figure all of those things out. Let me point out that Jarrod is SLAMMED at work, he can hardly see straight, but he still left to take care of Bo for me. Not many men would do that. I just want him to know how much I appreciate it and how much I love him! THANK YOU Honey!!!!

"ma ma"

Yep, we got a "ma ma" this morning! I could hardly believe my ears! We were in our bedroom hanging out while daddy was getting dressed for work. Bo was in his exersaucer and I had been sitting next to him playing. He was getting fussy because it was nap time. I got up to go get my coffee and the next thing we heard was "MA MA". I completely took a double take and Jarrod came out of the bathroom with a puzzled look on his face. I said did you hear that? Jarrod agreed it was definitely ma ma. I ran to grab my phone to call my parents, it took them talking to Jarrod to believe me! This is the age they start to babble so every day, several times a day I do sounds with him...ma, ma, ma...da, da, da...ba, ba, ba...in hopes he would repeat them. Until now he hasn't said any of them, and I thought for sure "da da" would be his first sound. I realize that he's just making noises and he has no idea what he's saying, although it was funny that he said it as soon as I got up to walk away, he's totally in a mommy stage right now. It was the most beautiful thing I think I've ever heard. It was so weird to hear something come out of his mouth other than a scream, squeal, grunt, or cry. I'm sure it's like his first laugh was...just kind of slips out and we don't hear it again for a week or so, but I don't care...it was music to my ears!!!!!!!!!!

A great Saturday!

Today was a great day in our house. We didn't do anything too exciting, maybe that's what was so great about it! This morning we woke up and decided after Bo's morning nap to head to the pool for a little while. Again, I think I've found the secret to getting him to nap with no fuss...a float in the pool! About 20 minutes into it he was in dreamland! We got home, cleaned everyone up, ate lunch, all took a nap, then Jarrod and I finally cleaned out and organized our guest bedroom (we've only lived here since last August)! Here are some cute pictures from today!

This is the life!

A new face that I spotted a few times today!

A little play time with daddy before bed (firetruck pj's in honor of Uncle Barney)

Gotta get to bed...Sweet Dreams!

How You Live

This morning little man and I were out and about running errands and I heard a new (new to me at least) song on the radio and I absolutely loved it! It's by Point of Grace. I tried to find it to post on my blog, but it's not available. A great, inspirational message we should all remember in life!

How You Live

Wake up to the sunlight
With your windows open
Don't hold in your anger or leave things unspoken
Wear your red dress
Use your good dishes
Make a big mess and make lots of wishes
Have what you want
But want what you have
And don't spend your life lookin' back

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
You won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

So go to the ballgames
And go to the ballet
And go see your folks more than just on the holidays
Kiss all your children
Dance with your wife
Tell your husband you love him every night
Don't run from the truth
'Cause you can't get away
Just face it and you'll be okay

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
You won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

Oh wherever you are and wherever you've been
Now is the time to begin

So give to the needy
And pray for the grieving
E'en when you don't think that you can
'Cause all that you do is bound to come back to you
So think of your fellow man
Make peace with God and make peace with yourself
'Cause in the end there's nobody else

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It’s how you live

This is only the beginning...

So over the past few weeks Bo has really gotten the desire to be mobile. He's not crawling yet, although I don't think that will be much longer. He hates to sit still he is constantly moving regardless if he's laying on the floor, we are holding him, he's being fed...he squirms and tries to escape. This afternoon I was desperately needing to get some things done so I put him in his bouncy seat and turned on his Sesame Street dvd. This is what I walked in on...

Trying hard not to miss any of Big Bird!

Why Parents Drink

My friend Emily sent this to me and I thought it was too cute and SOOOO true! I can already tell this might be our future with Bo.

Why parents drink

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employee had not phoned in sick one day. Having an urgent problem with one of the main computers, he dialed the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper.
'Hello ? '

'Is your daddy home?' he asked.

' Yes ,'
whispered the small voice.

May I talk with him?'

The child whispered,
' No .'

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, 'Is your Mommy there?'
'Yes.'

'May I talk with her?'

Again the small voice whispered,
'No .'

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, 'Is anybody else there?'

' Yes ,'
whispered the child,
' a policeman '.

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, 'May I speak with the policeman?'

' No, he's busy ',
whispered the child.

'Busy doing what?'

' Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman ,'
came the whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, 'What is that noise?'

' A helicopter '
answered the whispering voice.

'What is going on there?' demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.

Again, whispering, the child answered,
' The search team just landed a helicopter .'

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, 'What are they searching for?'

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle...
' ME .'

Bo's First 4th of July & Trip to the Zoo

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. We had such a fun and busy time! The 4th of July we actually stayed home and cooked out, it was nice and relaxing just us! Our neighborhood had a big firework show, but since it doesn't get dark here until 9:00pm we knew it was going to be past Bo's bedtime so we decided to stay home. Jarrod and I laughed at how in the past we would have been watching the fireworks with friends and more than likely with a cooler full of adult beverages and this year we watched them from our driveway with a baby monitor in hand! Oh how things have changed!!

Sunday was the highlight of the weekend. We got up early and drove down to San Antonio (a little over an hour) to take Bo to the zoo. As soon as we got to San Antonio it started raining so we were a little nervous, but it quickly stopped and became a very hot, sunny, and humid day! Of course he's way too young to understand anything, but there were a few things he was able to look at and enjoy like the flamingos, some of the monkeys, and he loved the Tiny Tot Zoo where it's just for kids. We were able to show him these huge fish in the aquariums and he loved them!! I think he just enjoyed being outside and taking everything in.
