Bo's Surgery

We have a good report for everyone...Bo's surgery went great! Honestly, I think it was harder on mommy and daddy than Bo. He went back at 9:00am and we were home by 1:00pm. They did not have to do the hypospadias repair, which was a huge relief. They did however have to correct the curvature. He was given a caudal, which is a form of epidural, they did this so they didn't have to put him under so far and was able to wake up much sooner. Surgery lasted about 90 minutes. He was in recovery for about 15 minutes and as soon as he started to open his eyes they brought him to Jarrod and I in the post-op area, where I was able to give him a bottle and they monitored his heart rate and blood pressure. After about 45 minutes we were able to go home.

The only time he really got fussy was when the epidural was starting to wear off. Other than that he has done great. Yesterday we spent most of the day with lots of snuggling and rocking! We are still giving pain meds every 4 hours and hope to stop that tomorrow. He has been such a trooper!
Thank you so much for all of the phone calls and emails. The night before Jarrod and I were both very anxious and greatly appreciated everyone calling and emailing to let us know that they would be thinking of us and Bo. Last night when I checked my email I had 30 emails from friends checking on him. We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. Bo even got a few "Get Well" gifts, thank you all so much!
A 1st surgery wouldn't be complete without pictures...

Dad-what's up with this peach colored gown??

An emotional daddy having a very hard time.

"They're going to be doing WHAT???"

"Please don't make me go."

Starting to wake up.

A bottle and a lovie make it all better!

Kids getting enough play...

I saw this yesterday on the Today Show and couldn't agree more. It was a segment on kids getting enough play time. They weren't referring to computer or tv time. They were talking about the good old play time that we had growing up...creative, using the imagination, using a stick as a gun, building forts, being outside and exploring.

We lived outside growing up...I remember making mud pies in the back yard and using the berries from the bushes to decorate them, playing in the sprinkler that simply waved back and forth, putting on ballet performances, capturing tadpoles in the ditch behind our house...because clearly we thought we were going to raise frogs, playing school with my stuffed animals as my "class", having tea parties...again with my stuffed animals, poor things I made them do everything. We had simple things and had the best time! If there is one thing I want Bo to experience it's playing outside, digging for worms, using his imagination to create "super hero" worlds, building forts out of boxes or sheets...all the things we did growing up. I do not agree with letting children sit in front of the computer or tv! So I had to post this for you to watch because I just couldn't agree more! You will want to go to the bottom of the page to stop the music so you can watch.

A car seat, a 3 hour drive, a 2nd tooth, and a firetruck

All these and more happened this weekend! We had an action packed, fun-filled weekend in the Lawson house! It all started on Friday, we had a play date at my friend Michelle's house with RJ and Mack, the boys played for about 2 hours while the mommies visited and had lunch. After our play date it was time for a trip to Target. I just got Bo a shopping cart cover and was dying to use it! Every mom is excited when they are finally able to put their little ones in the "big boy" shopping cart! So off to Target we went, where he had a blast looking at everything. While we were checking out I noticed a little bump on his lower gum...we have our 2nd tooth!!

Saturday morning we woke up and headed to a birthday party for our friends Liz and Kenny's little boy Nate. They had a firetruck, a real one! The kids loved it of course, Bo had more fun watching all the big kids run around! After that we headed to lunch and then to Babies R Us for...a big boy car seat!!! My baby is growing so fast, it was time to get out of the infant car seat.

It was a good thing we got the new car seat because Sunday we woke up and decided to take a trip with daddy to Dallas. Bo's first road trip! Jarrod had to be in Dallas early Monday morning so we decided to tag along to do something different and to also see my cousin Adrienne and her little girl Kate. We met them for dinner on Sunday night. Bo loved Kate and she kept playing and hugging him! The next morning after Jarrod's meeting we grabbed breakfast at the hotel where Bo had his first taste of grits (mommy's favorite), a pancake, and some strawberries! After that back in the car for another 3 hour drive home! We had a wonderful family weekend!

Funny

Oh how true...

7 Months!

Bo turned 7 months today! I was totally fine with months 1-6...7 months is just getting too close to a year and I'm not ready for him to get there so fast! Everyone told me the time flew by...they weren't kidding. We didn't have a checkup so according to our scale he's 20 pounds 4 ounces! This would explain my back problems haha!

In honor of 7 months I thought I'd write 7 new things he's doing...

  • First Tooth
  • Crawling. It's amazing how he can have a floor full of toys and he still manages to crawl to all the things that are NOT his toys!!!
  • A new quirky thing is that he loves to suck on the ear of his lamb lovie, one of those blankets that is an animal head and has a blanket attached...You can give it to him upside and he always finds the ear to suck on! Who knows???
  • He's such a boy...already obsessed with the remotes and cell phones! And would much rather play with an empty box than his own toys...my shopping just got easier!
  • Has started eating some table food like toast, bananas, mashed potatoes
  • Gets SO excited when daddy gets home from work! He's never that excited when it's just me.
  • He really loves books as a matter of fact my mom and dad sent another one of their little care packages earlier this week with an outfit and some of the same books (well not the exact same mine are probably all destroyed), but some of the favorites I read when I was little, remember the little Golden Books? I can't believe I'm reading those to my own child now!

Playing with my new toy that mommy bought me today!

It's a little hard to crawl while holding the ball at the same time, but I'm gonna give it a try!

I took these yesterday, but still had to post them. Lily and Josie does this look familiar?

Loves to play with the phone, wonder where he gets that from??

Wonder how many chicks I can pick up in my new ride?

Sneak Peek...

So Robin, the photographer we went to the other day posted a few pics on her blog so I thought I'd share them here. Considering that he was fussy most of the time we were there I thought these turned out good! Of all days for Bo to decide to cut his first tooth. He's always such a ham for the camera, he totally made a liar out of me, but isn't that what kids do?

1st Tooth

So this past week has been full of many firsts for Bo. Yesterday we discovered his first tooth!! I can't believe my baby is already getting teeth. No more toothless grins! Night before last he was so fussy and not wanting to go to sleep, which is very unlike him. He ususally sleeps about 12 hours at night. Then yesterday we went for family pictures. He would not get his fingers out of his mouth and he was SO fussy. Totally not like Bo, so I knew something was going on. As we were leaving the photographer, Robin was holding him and she said "I think he's got a tooth"! What do you know...there was a little white bump coming through. Last night was better so I'm hoping for this tooth we are out of the woods. Now we just have what, 20 something more to go?? Once I'm able to get a picture I'll post it. Right now he isn't letting anyone in there!

1st Baseball Game

Sunday night we were invited to join some friends of ours at a Round Rock Express baseball game. It's the minor league team here in Austin. My friend Michelle (RJ's mom), her husband had rented out a suite for his clients so they invited us to join them for food, tickets to the game, and the best part...air conditioning!!! We had so much fun! The games are played at the Dell Diamond, click here to check out their website. This was our first game and we were very impressed with the stadium. Sundays are family day so they have so much stuff catered to kids there were jump castles everywhere, games for the kids, they gave out Round Rock Express lunch boxes, so Bo got his very first lunch box, it was great family fun. And of course mommy couldn't leave without getting Bo a souvenir so he got a Round Rock Baseball hat! Thank you Rob and Michelle for inviting us!

Before the game with daddy.

My two boys!

Yeah! This is so much fun!
Of course mommy had to buy me a hat!

New friends...Joy & Mack, Me & Bo, Michelle & RJ

He's really getting to heavy for me to carry like this!

I'm so blessed with an amazing family!

Bo and his girlfriend

Today we had a playdate with Bo's girlfriend Givanna! We went over to Cheryl's house so the little ones could play. The last time these two were together they were still too young to notice each other. Today was the cutest thing I have ever seen. Givanna is exactly 3 weeks younger than Bo, she was actually born on his due date. We put them down on the floor facing each other and they loved it. They both started smiling so big and "talking" to each other, which for Bo is now blowing his tongue at you. It was so much fun to watch them check each other out, I would have given anything to know what was going through their little heads! Cheryl and I just imagine them thinking "hey you're like me".
Mom we've gotta get one of these Barney mats!

They have a basket of toys too mom!

"Get off of me!!!" I think this is perfect for their future wedding video!

"Hey I have these too!"

Partners in crime!

Wildflowers and Kiddos

So today Bo and I had a playdate with some new friends we met when we went to Babytime at the library, RJ and Mack. We met everyone at the Wildflower Exhibit here in Austin. There really were some beautiful flowers and gardens, but quite honestly all us mommies wanted to do was sit and talk so we quickly found an air conditioned cafe and decided to take it over for almost all of our 2 hour visit! I just love watching Bo "play" with other babies, well it's more just staring at each other trying to figure out what they are, but it's so cute. We put him down in front of RJ who is 6 days older than Bo and Bo's eyes got so big and he started smiling, he loved it...my little social butterfly! The kiddos seemed to have fun and Michelle, Joy, and I had a blast just talking! Don't you love how all the pictures are indoors and not one wildflower picture haha!

No, Bo didn't shrink I just took his small umbrella stroller. P.S.-you know you take too many pictures of your child when your child sits up to "pose" with a big smile as soon as he sees the camera while the other little ones do their own thing no matter how much noise the mommies were making! Aren't they so cute!! RJ-6 months, Bo-6 months, Mack-12 months

RJ...pretty much ready for a nap!

Mack taking a lunch break.

First Eye Exam

Today Bo went for his first eye exam. Who knew you took 6 month old to get their eyes checked? Well apparently you do, at least that's what I was told when I went for my eye exam a few months ago. Being a new mom when someone says "you need to schedule an appointment for..." you figure okay guess that's something we're supposed to do, what do I know? Plus I don't want to feel terrible in 2 years when they say, "If you had only brought him in at 6 months..." because you know that's what would happen!

I have to admit, I was actually impressed with everything they did, checked for, and quite frankly how they kept him entertained for so long after dilating his eyes. Yes, little man had his eyes dilated and he did great!! Didn't cry at all and I know those drops hurt. Did you know a baby can be born with cataracts? Again, not my area of expertise, but that's what she said. He got a great report! I personally think next time for my eye exam I want the "baby exam" it's much more fun...cool images to look at, toys, blinking lights, much better than sitting in the chair looking at a chart trying to determine..."which looks better 1 or 2?".

The only "bad" news we got was that it's very likely the color of his eyes will change. I was hoping that since we had made it to almost 7 months with beautiful blue eyes that they'd stay, but the doctor said they can change even past a year old. Her daughter had blue eyes like Bo and they turned hazel after she turned a year. The fact that the only person we know of in either of our families who had blue eyes was my great-grandfather on my mom's side, it's highly unlikely they'll stay blue. The other thing she said is since Jarrod and I both wear glasses, Bo probably will too. Everything she looked at today checked out great and he isn't due back until he's 2-3 yrs old and then again before he starts school!

Bo & Maddie

Here's another from this weekend. Bo LOVES Maddie and Maddie is very protective of him. She loves to run around and play with him and he loves to watch her. He's mesmerized by her, they definitely have a little bond. For the record she's only licking his nose so don't freak out! I suggest going to the bottom of my page and pausing the music so you can hear the video.

On The Move

Watch out world...we are on the move in our house. This weekend Bo started "army crawling" to get to his toys. I can't believe it, I didn't think it would happen for another month or two. I know in a few weeks my world is going to be turned upside down! My "genius" baby haha!!

Weekend Pics

The past few weeks bath time has become a bit challenging. Bo apparently thinks it's funny to try and climb out of his infant bathtub. So after battling with him on this I decided to go get him a "big boy" bath seat. He still isn't sitting up completely on his own, but the seat helps support him, he's just got to figure it out!

Not wanting to go to bed

Our snuggle bunny!

Thank you Emily & Uncle Barney for the cute outfits!

I'm a cutie!
