Poor guy

Since Bo has had such a bad cough and the meds didn’t work Dr. Kahn sent us home with a nebulizer.  Here is our routine 3 times a day…only takes about 15 minutes each time and he does really well with it, we usually just sit on the couch and watch tv.

Who Dat!!!

Another big part of this weekend was the Saints playoff game.  Being from MS the Saints are the closest professional football team that we have.  I have always been a Saints fan, I have many friends from La, and I also went to college an hour away from New Orleans so we spent many, many nights in that wonderful city.  One of my most memorable Saints moments was while I worked for Make A Wish, one of our little boys wished to go to a Saints game…the way they treated him was absolutely amazing so from then on they had my utmost respect.  Now, I must say that Jarrod, being from IN is a Colts fan, and if they were playing anyone but the Saints I would pull 110% for the Colts, but New Orleans needs and deserves a Super Bowl win…look at all that this team and city have been through.  So needless to say Super Bowl Sunday there will be a little tension in the Lawson household!

So what does every good parent of a toddler do when there is such an important play off game taking place…you take them to a sports bar til 10:30 at night.  YES, yes we did do this, but let me point out that he had taken a 4 hr nap that afternoon and it wasn’t a real bar…it was a restaurant/bar.  We had so much fun with my family and Bo did fabulous…we only had to pull out a train and his lovey right at the end.  He had a blast!

Choo Choo Bo turns 2!!

So I am finally able to post pictures from this weekend.  Bo and I have both been sick with cold/sinus stuff.  After 3 trips to the pediatrician, a steroid, round of antibiotics, and now a nebulizer I think we’ve got him taken care of.  I started antibiotics yesterday so I’m hoping we are both on the road to recovery.

One of the trips to his doctor included his regular 2 year checkup and this is what we found out…

  • He’s 31 lbs (85th %)
  • He’s 3’1 tall (95th%) She is estimating he will be somewhere in the 6’2-6’3 range as an adult, but said we can tell better at age 3.
  • We need to start preparing for a big boy bed…not something mommy and daddy are looking forward to.
  • Tantrums, ummm he’s 2…enough said!
  • Everything looks great he’s a healthy, happy, ACTIVE 2 yr old.  The only concern is his lack of speech.  He still isn’t talking as much as we would like. This is causing him so much frustration as well as wearing me out.  It’s so hard not being able to communicate with him and know what he wants/needs. It is constant grunting and whining.  So for everyone’s sanity we are going to first schedule a hearing test.  We want to make sure he’s hearing correctly because that will obviously have a huge impact on his speech. Next, will be speech therapy.  I’m in the process of checking on insurance coverage, providers, etc… so hopefully we will get this ball rolling soon.

We had so much fun with friends and family celebrating his birthday party.  Thank you to all of you who made the trip in from out of town, it meant so much to have you all here.

Sweet Dreams…

This was yesterday at naptime…everyone is tucked in and sleeping peacefully!

Yummy!

I just thought these were too cute!  I made cupcakes for Bo to take to Mothers Morning Out this morning for his birthday (a day early).  I did the mini cupcakes so it wasn’t so much sugar for the little ones.  Although only 3 out of the 24 came back so something tells me they might as well have had the regular size cupcakes.  Hmmm maybe that’s why he didn’t take a nap today!

Bo’s Room

So for some reason I always decide to do projects around the house while Jarrod is out of town.  Because when is there a better time to try and paint a room when you are home alone with a toddler all week?  Anyway, I was able to get it done and it turned out great.  The pictures don’t really do it justice, the color looks a little weird in them.  I went with a brown, it turned out a little darker than I had expected but now I love it, especially with the white furniture.  We still have some frames and pictures to hang on the wall, but other than that it is finally done!

IMG_1582This is probably the best the color looks in these pictures.

i think there was something on my lens causing those spots.

of course he had to hop in for a pic!  Probably his last picture before turning two!

Words to live by...

I came across this quote today and absolutely loved it!!  As we are quickly approaching Bo's 2nd birthday this week, I'm realizing just how fast it really does go by so this quote really hit home with me.

"Enjoy the little things, for one day, you may look back and realize that they were the big things."-Robert Brault

Friday Fun

So Friday morning we decided to bundle up and head over to Kathy’s house for an impromptu playdate.  Our friend Janice called me while I was on the way to see what we were doing so she decided to join us as well.  Now, let me preface this with…these are both moms of twins and in addition they each have a third child.  Janice has twin 4 yr old boys and another little boy, James, who is 4 days younger than Bo.  Then Kathy has twin 2 yr olds and a 4 yr old little girl.  So in case you didn’t get all of that…when we get together it is 4-- 2 year olds and 3-- 4 year olds, yes that is correct…7 kids and 3 moms!  It makes it easy to get a group discount when we go places!  When I leave I’m usually thanking God I only have one child right now!  I must say though they all play together really well and it’s great because us moms can actually carry on a conversation.  I have to laugh though because Jarrod is a little concerned that the two friends I have BOTH have twins…I think he’s hoping it’s not contagious ;)  Although he’s a sibling of twins and twins run in his family (4 generations), it’s always been on his dad’s side, and it’s never the twin who had the twins so guess what that means…Jarrod is next in line! HaHa!

So we all piled up (destroyed) Kathy’s house, the kids played, moms talked, we ordered pizza for lunch, and had a wonderful time.

Needless to say Bo came home and crashed!  He slept almost 3 hours.  However, when he did wake up he was dying to go outside.  All I could think was “you’ve got to be kidding me”.  Our high was like 20 degrees, but I knew this would be one of the few times Bo actually got to see snow.  So I decide to do my “good mom” duty and bundle him up and head outside. So of course I’m doing this because of the “snow”…thinking he’s going to want to play in it, throw it, eat it, whatever, so what did he do when we got out there…

IMG_1553

Pushed his car around in circles…the same thing he does EVERY time we go outside.  He could have cared less about the snow.  All it did was make him mad because the car wouldn’t roll the way he wanted it to.  Go figure!?!?  Gotta love toddlers!

It’s Cold!

So it has been super cold here lately so we haven’t done much getting outside.  We (Bo & I) are both going crazy so I’m constantly looking for new things to do…we’ve colored, made forts, played with his blocks, read books, played trains, watched movies, play-doh, I’ve even considered getting out the paint (I’m desperate). So yesterday as I was cleaning his highchair, we are transitioning to a booster seat, I look over and he’s climbed up in a kitchen chair and is having a blast with the boxes that I was about to take out to recycle.  It always ends up this way, maybe next time I’ll just go straight to the garbage and forget the toys!

Yesterday afternoon we did get a little snow.  I have to chuckle a little because with Jarrod being in Indiana and us both living in NJ for a while, it’s so funny to see how everyone panics down in the south.  Growing up we never had snow, what I remember were the horrible ice storms…yes you got out of school, but you had no electricity, no heat, no phone, no tv and I remember all huddling in the den to sleep with a kerosene heater dad had, I can still smell it!  It was fun growing up, but now that I have a little guy who needs things to do I dread the thought of it!

I did let him go outside for a little bit he loved it and kept trying to catch the snow.  The funniest was when he came inside, pointed to his snack cup on the counter, and then went back outside to eat his snack…in the snow!  It snowed more last night and some of our roads are even iced over from such cold temps, but all in all things are good and little man got to see his first snow!

Happy New Year!

So it’s been a while (for me at least) since I’ve posted anything and part of this is due to my new year’s resolution!  Lately I have been super busy cleaning out closets, packing away old toys to make room for new toys, packing up Bo’s clothes that no longer fit him, staying on top of laundry and cleaning the house, and most importantly working on our budget!
Thanks to my dad (thanks, dad) I have learned so many useful tips using Quicken to help us with our budgeting.  We are still working on our numbers since Jarrod is at work all day and then comes homes at night and either works or crashes, we haven’t had much time to sit down together to do this.  So I’m doing what I can during the day and then at night we might have a quick debriefing on what I have done to this point.  We have used Quicken for some time now, but have definitely not been utilizing all of it’s tools.
In addition to this I’m also taking care of little man and planning his 2nd Birthday, which I must say is making me very sad.  I ordered his cake yesterday and when I left the bakery I realized that my baby is really turning 2!  Where has the time gone?
Here are a few pictures from New Years Eve.  We stayed in and enjoyed a nice quiet night at home, although it wasn’t too quiet…I made the mistake of buying Bo a noisemaker which he loved and spent most of the night chasing the dog around with it, but hey it was New Years and he had fun!

IMG_1521  He’s also loved playing with his bath tub dies that Santa brought him…his favorite is the blue.  He gets in the bath now saying “boo, boo”

We also found out he loves spaghetti (takes after his mom).  I know most kids love spaghetti, but with Bo you NEVER know what’s going to be eaten and what’s not!
