So unless you’ve been living under a rock you know that Atlanta was hit with a terrible winter storm. We have all been stuck inside, not able to leave our house for 4 days now! We got a lot of snow and very fast, at our house we had 8 inches, which was crazy. The problems in all of this have been 1-Atlanta did nothing to prep the streets…no sand or salt prior to the storm hitting 2-We’re in the south and we just aren’t prepared for things like this, so we don’t have the equipment to deal with what’s on the roads now and 3-the temps haven’t gone above freezing and another cold system has moved through so what ice is thawing during the day is just refreezing at night. They can’t even get the major interstates clear so you can imagine what our local roads look like!! It’s crazy to hear and see what people are doing to get around. I had a friend whose husband walked a mile and a half just to go to the grocery store. Then if you can even make it to the store they are out of everything. Jarrod did go to the Publix about 2 miles from our house, it took him 30 minutes to get there and luckily they did have the things we needed.
The snow started coming down Sunday night around 10pm at our house. In one hour we had 3 inches! Monday morning we woke up and spent a good part of the day outside. Bo loved it! When he first woke up and looked out the window he started singing “Frosty The Snowman” so he got it, which was fun. Our neighbors came over with sleds since we have such a steep driveway and side yard. Bo loved sledding!!! I thought he might be a little nervous, especially since our driveway is so steep and he went so fast, but he loved every second of it and would get up begging to “do it again”. Monday night we blew up our air mattress and put it in front of the fire to all watch a movie and roasted marshmallows in the fireplace, Bo loved it!
Tuesday morning, we woke up again to see that we still weren’t going anywhere. We played in the snow some more, but by this point the snow had pretty much frozen so it wasn’t fun snow to play with. Regardless, Bo had fun just walking around in it and throwing what he could.
Wednesday once again we find out…still no school for Bo, daddy still couldn’t get to work, and mommy was about to loose what patience she had left!
Thursday- by now…we’re over it, just plain over it!!! Jarrod did venture out and make it to work. He said the main highway he took was okay, but it’s these secondary streets that aren’t getting any attention that are so bad. He almost didn’t even make it out of the neighborhood. I think he would have been perfectly fine sitting in 2 hr traffic or on the side of the road, just to get out of the house! I don’t blame him one bit! All of my mom friends are going crazy, we’ve all run out of ideas of things to do…we’ve colored, we’ve painted, we’ve play dohed, we’ve hot wheeled it, we’ve baked cookies, we’ve read books, we’ve watched way too much tv and movies…we are all going crazy. I did get to organize Bo’s closet that we just installed (pictures on that later)! We’re still waiting for his furniture to be delivered they’ve had to reschedule twice this week. Looks like it will be Monday before we get it.
Who knows when things will get back to normal. Tomorrow’s temps are supposed to go up into the 40s and over the weekend into the 50s so that will help a ton! I have my 20 wk checkup tomorrow with my doctor so we are hoping to be able to make that. If so I’ll keep you posted on how it goes! Until then here are our pics from this week!
