Well I had my first experience with food poisoning Monday night. Leave it to me to get it at almost 30 weeks pregnant. Let me tell you..it’s uncomfortable to begin with much less with a huge belly and baby kicking at the same time. Friday afternoon I made a strawberry cake that I had been dying to make. The whole time I was questioning on if it needed to be refrigerated because it had fresh strawberries in both the cake and the icing. Note to self…if ever in doubt go the cautious route!! Jarrod and I both had a piece after dinner Monday night. I woke up around 1:00am feeling extremely nauseous so I got up and the longer I was up the more I could tell it was coming, so I basically just paced in the bathroom. I started getting sick around 2:00 and stopped around 6:00. I kept thinking it was such a weird stomach virus, it wasn’t like any I had ever had before. So yesterday morning Jarrod came in and said he thought I had food poisoning because apparently he woke up and between 4 and 6 he was feeling sick too, although he never got sick. He never does, it makes me crazy! Not that I want him to get sick, but I’m always on my death bed with these things and he’s the guy who says “I don’t feel well” and an hour later he’s totally fine!!! Anyway, the only thing we could think of that we ate that Bo didn’t eat was the cake. Last night I emailed my friend who I had gotten the recipe from and asked if she had kept hers in the fridge and she said yes because she felt the strawberries and cream cheese should stay cool. CREAM CHEESE…DING, DING, DING!!!!! Yep, I had totally forgotten cream cheese was in the icing!!!!! Thank you pregnancy brain! I felt like such an idiot. I talked to the doctor today (I know a day late) but they said as long as I was feeling better and staying hydrated I should be fine and that no baby can’t get it!
Here is one thing I did learn. While I was “waiting” for it to hit, I was a little bit panicked. I have been having a lot of Braxton Hicks contractions lately, especially by the end of the day and Monday night was no different. I also have many friends who as they are going into labor have become nauseous and gotten sick. So with the contractions, nausea, and lower back pain that was coming and going I had a moment of panic thinking…could I be going into labor? Even if it wasn’t labor, what if it got really bad and we had to go to the hospital? I instantly started thinking what would we do with Bo? It’s one thing if I needed to go to the hospital during the day, but what in the world would we do at 3:00am! My aunts and uncles are about 30-45 minutes away. So after talking to my dear friend Janice, who has 4 kids already, one being a 2 month old, she very matter of factly said “you’d call me”. As if she doesn’t have anything else going on. Anyway, it made me feel better that in an emergency, even in the middle of the night she’s ready to take our little man! So…I will be packing him a little overnight bag just in case! Hopefully we won’t ever need it, but I’d rather have something ready to go with a set of pjs, clothes, sippy cup, etc… Not knowing where he may land I’d rather be prepared!
I’m much better today and was able to eat a little at dinner last night. A HUGE THANK YOU to my dear, sweet husband. He didn’t hesitate to take the day off and spend it with Bo. They had a lot of fun spending the day together…played outside, played trains, cars, had a little bit of quiet time, went to the gym together. He totally jumped in as dad and let me rest. He even had a conference call at 3:00pm and had asked me if I could watch Bo, I said sure. Apparently I fell asleep and instead of waking me up, Jarrod let me sleep and had his call with a wild 3 year old in the background. I can’t thank him enough! I love you honey!
